What is Onelog?
Onelog is primarily a Web Resource Management solution with the following
features:
- Automatic "logging-on" capabilities. There is no longer
a need to enter logon details every time a user accesses
a web-based resource.
- Onelog allows connection to IP-restricted resources from
outside the restricted range.
- Onelog provides end-user authentication against existing
user databases such as AD, NDS, LDAP or Library Management
Systems.
- The system provides integration with PC booking solutions
such as, but not limited to, SignUp, Netloan and MyPC.
- Onelog provides hyperlink integration with existing web-based
systems such as Web Portals, Web Sites, Web-based Library
Automation systems and Virtual Learning Environments.
- The system provides integration with the IRIS - CD/DVD-ROM
Networking System to enable access to CD/DVD-ROM material
or other Windows applications via the Onelog solution.
- Onelog Provides extensive resource usage reports categorised
by user, user group, IP zone or resource.
- The system provides a customisable web interface where
resources can be organised in a hierarchal manner and then
immediately accessed. This can also allow individual users
to personalise their interface.
- Onelog offers administrators a web-based administration
tool to customise system setup and set access rights for
users, user groups and resources.
- The solution allows multiple resources to be used concurrently.
One single logon to all electronic resources
Onelog provides the user with the ability to logon once, and
then be automatically connected to any password or IP protected
resource. Onelog allows administrators to give users access
to Internet resources without revealing confidential logon
information. Onelog has the unique ability to handle authentication
in the manner most suited to the user's location. For example
when on campus Onelog might use IP-based access, while off-site
the user might be logged on using an institutional or personal
username and password. Onelog goes beyond proxy-based solutions!
Onelog can logoff too
If you subscribe to a resource that is restricted by a concurrent
user license you will probably know the problem when someone
does not logoff. Don't worry; Onelog will take care of that
for you, freeing the license for other users, automatically.
Centrally Manage Access
With Onelog, users are centrally managed so that they can
immediately be prevented from accessing your institution's
information once they have completed their course or their
membership has expired.
Personalise Content
Onelog can be adapted to reflect your corporate identity.
Users can also customise their Onelog experience by building
a menu of the resources they use most frequently. Users can
add personal web links to their own My Onelog menu.
Integration Intranet and Windows Resources or Web Portal
Onelog used in conjunction with IRIS allows you to access
all the resources you need. Relevant white papers, case studies,
course notes, CD-ROMs, Windows applications, web links, online
databases and in-house applications, such as e-learning packages,
can all be accessed from one single menu and from any location.
Powerful Reports
Accurate reports are crucial when planning budget allocation.
Onelog collates usage information in one powerful set of reports
covering all resources regardless of whether they are online
databases, in-house applications or simple web-links.
Now you can really simplify "Trials"
Onelog allows organisations to advertise new databases which
are on trial or that have been recently purchased so that
all authorised users are invited to use them and provide feedback.
Coupled with usage statistics evaluating subscription content
is no longer a haphazard process.
Administration Free!
Seamless logon to all electronic resources is directly managed
by the Onelog service, which is maintained by ITS. This reduces
administration to simple adjustments and the selection of
new resources. Onelog never requires the administrator to
write scripts or service complex server-based applications.
Portal/VLE Integration
Plug the power of Onelog into your existing Web Portal or
secure web sites. Onelog provides users with simple, seamless
access to all content, irrespective of authentication method
direct from your web site, portal or eLearning packages.
Onelog brings freedom of movement
Once a user has authenticated to your portal or web site they
can click on links that use Onelog Connections, which can
be placed anywhere. E.g. the user may authenticate to a uPortal-based
system and following successful logon they may have an option
to connect to the organisation's Blackboard server without
having to logon a second time. When using Blackboard the user
may be presented with further hyperlinks that connect to the
organisation's library catalogue, e-journals, web email or
Metalib server; if the user clicks on any of these they will
be automatically connected using Onelog. There are no restrictions
on where the Onelog Connection hyperlinks can be placed. This
allows Onelog to glue together very different web-based interfaces
with no further authentication.
Control Web Access
Onelog allows your organisation to control what users can
access on the Internet. Onelog ensures that users only access
web-based content relevant to their study or work. Onelog
allows users to safely access the Internet totally unsupervised.
With Onelog your users can only access the content YOU recommend!
Onelog does not filter, it controls absolutely. Onelog does
not require regular updates unlike filtering solutions or
technical knowledge to administrate.
